Sit. Stay. Heal - The Unique Benefits of Animal Therapy

Join us as we explore the benefits of animal therapy!

Melissa Sargent, Founder and CEO of Hearts and Hooves Therapy will discuss how their special therapy animals help heal, how they select their therapy animals, who receives visits from the animals and the importance of their service to the community.

Then, Shannon Kopp, author of Pound for Pound: A Story of One Woman’s Recovery and the Shelter Dogs Who Loved Her Back to Life (HarperCollins Publishers) and Founder of SoulPaws Recovery Project, will share her personal story of how the human-animal connection helped her to recover from a life-threatening eating disorder when traditional forms of help failed. Dr. Patricia Flaherty-Fischette --an AAI researcher, clinical social worker, and board member at SoulPaws Recovery Project—will join Shannon to share her expertise on the power of animal-assisted therapy, as well as her research study, which was the first to explore Animal-Assisted Interventions with the eating disorder population. Together, they will share how SoulPaws Recovery Project is helping children and adults impacted by eating disorders to heal.
